AMTA-KY Chapter Message from your President
A Summer Filled with Excitement – Summer 2019
AMTA-KY Chapter President Letter – Caren McCarty, President
I hope everyone enjoyed their summer. I have now completed my first year as AMTA-KY Chapter President and couldn’t be any happier.
In May, with the help from Bob Babbage and his Team, I applied for the 2019 LLEAD Grant. The application was submitted to National on May 1, 2019 and we were awarded $15,000 to the chapter to be used from August 1, 2019 – July 31, 2020 for legislative purposes. Ann Boone and Denise Logsdon attended the National Legislative Conference with Bob Babbage to meet our Kentucky legislators in Nashville, TN, August 6th and 7th. This meeting was to introduce AMTA-KY Chapter and Massage Therapy to our Legislators. Since the laws and regulations for Massage Therapy are currently being changed in Kentucky we want to put a face to our profession. See Ann Boone and Denise Logsdon’s report below.
In June, I attended the AMTA National Presidents Meeting in Evanston, IL along with Financial Administrator, Kala Carby and Laws and Legislature Chair, Ann Boone. This was the first President’s Training Session that AMTA National had where we were split up by volunteer positions for two days of training.
What are we working on now? Our main priority is our 2020 Spring Conference to be held in Lexington at the Embassy Suites. Save the date for Thursday, March 12 thru Sunday, March 15, 2020. When planning these events, we are always listening to our members and getting ideas from other Chapters to help improve our program each year. For our 2019 Spring Conference we upgraded our conference format by offering Track Classes. According to the attendee surveys, they were extremely happy with the hands on training that they gained by attending a class with a specific tool to use. On the other hand, after hearing from a few members that could not attend, we realized that offering Track Classes is not a one size fits all Member Education experience. Track Classes limited our total conference attendance to around 100 attendees, whereas in the past years we had about 200+ attendees. So, the AMTA-KY Education Team got together and are devising a plan to help more of our members achieve the feeling of walking away with a complete tool belt of knowledge by having both Track Options and Module Options. We are bringing you TWO different ways of choosing YOUR Continued Education, allowing you to choose the style of Education class that best fits you to grow professionally and personally. We will start with Ethics in the Evening on Thursday, March 12. Our Student/Teacher Event and all classes will begin on Friday morning, March 13 continuing though Sunday, March 15.
You can find more information on the 2020 Conference as it develops on FB. The brochure will be sent out to you via snail mail and e-mail. Please make sure AMTA National has your correct contact information.
